開城館 – Kaijokan

The dojo is honored to have been named by Toshishiro Obata Kaiso the founder of Shinkendo in 2013. Since the dojo  was located in the bay area Kaiso had an image of the dojo reflecting the open sea surrounding the peninsula. So he decided to name it Kaijokan (開城館). Kai (開) means open, Jo (城) means castle, and Kan (館) means building. So open castle describing the landscape as open and vast just as students should strive and remain open in their pursuits and have lofty goals. Kaijokan Dojo is an official ISF branch.

Shibucho

Raheem Syed started studying Shinkendo in January 2004 in Illinois under David Fazo Sensei and Trevis Crane Shihan at the Iwanami Dojo. He also simultaneously studied at the Yamakaze Dojo under Stephen Bertsch Shihan and Blake Meyer Shihan starting in 2005. He continued to study and teach in both central Illinois dojo until he moved out to the bay area in 2013 and started Kaijokan Dojo as the Shibucho under the direct supervision of Toshishiro Obata Kaiso. Raheem is certified to teach Shinkendo, Toyama-Ryu, and Bojutsu by the Kokusai Shinkendo Renmei, Kokusai Toyama Ryu Renmei , and Kokusai Bojutsu Tanrendo Renmei under Toshishiro Obata Kaiso.
